Stained Glass - Public Buildings

For all architectural panels I work in the traditional way assembling them with lead came, solder and cement, using a great mix of glasses from handmade English and French to coloured American, German, Polish and Chinese glass, as well as a variety of clear and textured ones. I sandblast and fuse glass to create added interest and detail where required.

I have designed and made Church Memorial Windows in both Medieval and Victorian Churches. In these one works closely with the architecture and period of the church, the PCC, the Church Diocese,  English Heritage, the congregation and the client. It is an honour to design and create something that becomes part of the fabric of of an important and much loved building.

My stained glass windows and designs have also been made for a variety of public buildings including schools, surgeries, a healing room and a cruise ship.  One learns so much from these commissions about the different institutions involved and the work they do.  They must be site specific, relevant to the organisation involved and sometimes  have a functional as well as decorative significance.  For example, the Fittleton Memorial Window, in the RNR Headquarters, St Catherine’s Dock, commemorates their losses in the 1976 accident, and is used as the focal point of their annual Memorial service.
